MARK de CLIVE-LOWE: LIVE REMIX
Mark de Clive-Lowe is a pioneering live remixer, producer and keyboardist whose real-time sets dissolve the boundaries between DJ culture, live improvisation and studio production. For over 25 years, the Japanese-New Zealander has operated at the forefront of broken beat, soulful house and jazz-rooted electronic music - developing a performance language where every sound is created, deconstructed and rebuilt on the fly.
Emerging from London’s influential broken beat movement in the late ’90s, MdCL became a foundational voice in progressive club music, collaborating with and remixing alongside key figures across the scene: including Restless Soul, Bugz in the Attic, Dego and IG Culture. After a decade in London and then 15 years embedded in Los Angeles’ jazz and club renaissance -including his acclaimed live-forward series CHURCH - he has refined a singular approach to performance: drum machines, samplers and keys treated as instruments in continuous reconstruction. No pre-recorded tracks. No fixed arrangements. Just groove architecture shaped in real time for the room.
With 20+ albums, an extensive catalog of remixes and collaborations in studio and on the live stage spanning Moodymann, DJ Spinna, Kenny Dope, Ge-Ology, Omar, Shirley Horn and the Blue Note Records catalog, MdCL’s work has become a touchstone for dancers and forward-thinking selectors worldwide. Now based in Tokyo, his Live Remix set remains the through-line - a high-wire fusion of rhythm, harmony and sound system pressure where the familiarity is reimagined and the dancefloor becomes part of the composition.
